The switch was made in Feb .. I believe that was about 1/3 into the production, about 1,000, for 1990, Phase-I cars, about 2,000 Phase-II cars. The real numbers are unk. The total for 1990 was 3,101 cars.

That is how I come up with about 10,000 PHASE I cars.

9,228 Allante cars for 1987 1988 1989, PHASE 1
1,000 for 1990 Phase I - estimated
=====
10,225 Phase-I cars, there abouts - ALL WITH factory HARD TOPS.

4,433 Allante cars for 1991, 1992, PHASE 2
2,000 for 1990 Phase-2 - estimated - usually referred as the 1990.5 or 1990 1/2 Allante
=====
6,400 Phase-II cars, unk number with Hard Tops

4,668 Phase-III Allante cars for 1993, unk number with Hard Tops

If you like to estimate how many of these cars are on the road, go to the Insurance Institute for the statistical fall out. The 1993 are probably doing a tiny bit better than their estimated fall out, the 1987 to 1992, are not. BTW, the 1st year model that will become near impossible to find, WILL BE the 1992, specially the OEM FACTORY HARD TOP models with VINs of NU10XXXX - There were only 1,933 cars made in 1992, take a 1/3 of those surviving today, and 1/3 of those survivors wit Hard Tops, we got around 200 Hard Top NU10XXXX (1992) cars on the road.

Keep in mind that rarely is a Hard Top sent to the junkyard for crushing / recycle. Most Allante cars go to the junkyard for mechanical issues or a front / rear /side collisions where the hard top is just fine. Roll overs are rare, really rare.

If one assumes 90% survival of the Hard Tops, there are around 11,000 Hard Tops out there, on garage rafters, storage rooms, etc .. to dress the surviving 6,000 to 7,000 cars ? These tops, all 3 phases, can all be adapted (starting at around $25) to fit any Allante.

Interesting notes: in the past weeks,
** From 500 to 700 cars are FOR-SALE at any one time, that being about 10% of the survivors.
** Approximately 4 cars are parted each week.

If I am wrong on the quantity of 1990 Phase 1 cars, I am wrong on the low side, meaning there would be more .. more PHASE-I hard tops than I estimated.

Last note .. the 1991 and 1992, for reasons that no one understands, are driven much more, are destroyed, are severely abused, are trashed more than all of the other years combined. There are a lot of 200,000 mile 1992 Allante cars.

Anyone wants to prove me wrong, bring the facts on.
IMO, the Allante is no more special than any other Cadillac when it comes to maintenence, accidents and survivility.
The Insurance Institute statistics, IMHO, DO APPLY!
