"the proper one" Uh no... there are TWO of them! My bet, sometime early in the car's history someone replaced ONE of the sensors... (probably the top one) and now the second one has failed.

Just a guess. But if he acutely said "you have the proper one" he is blowing smoke...

And ya the Japanese sensors are a different color and significantly different construction... steel inserts, they look much better.
