I hear you completely, but I have ALOT of faith in cassette adapters EXCEPT for they are so damn ugly lol.

Ive heard alot of direct FM solutions and the thing that always bugged me about them was they lost some of the very high frequency sounds. Not to say you dont lose some with tape, but I am perfectly satisfied with tape quality, its really very very good. In fact, if my Navigator HAD a cassette deck, Id use that over the noisy AUX inputs on the DVD player. And in my Sevilles? Forget it, the tape quality was EXCELLENT.
