The Li-ion cells are called 18650, it takes 'several' of these 18650 cells to make up a laptop battery. The 3 phase AC motor runs on 370v and each cell is 3.7v @2.2Ah at a cost of approx $3.00 wholesale.
The battery pack is 50kw/h so use ohms law and you can calculate how many cells are used.

volvo recharge is doing this right now.

your a dumb ass. It doesn't take 7000 batteries it typically takes 20 to 30 batteries depending on the voltage given and needed by motor and range. so a 15v battery cost $150. 20 needed for a 250v system cost about $3000.

agreed! but if apple built it you wouldn't be able to replace the battery without breaking something.

yah nothing like a $1,440,800 car vs $110,000 electric car. and it's not like engineers have been designing gasoline powered cars for well over 100 years. How long have we been designing electric cars. This is only the beginning.
