Just because you clip on a hard top on a convertible car doesnt then make it as stiff as a ready built coupe. The chassis has already changed and lost much of its rigidness when built as a soft top. I do want a boxster though!

Guys, ease up. The Cayman was originally designed to be a cheaper than the convertible Boxster. However,they found the coupe structure made the frame stiffer than the convertible. The difference was so noticeable that they dumped the prior generation 911 engine in as an S model. The smaller non S engine came later. A hardtop on a convertible does not add a lot of stiffness to the car. A coupe is one structure = >stiffness = >handling than the convertible.
