Carl Perkins is a great pianist. I just found out about him, when I bought the album "Picture of Heath" (previously released as "Playboys"), by Chet Baker, Art Pepper, Phil Urso. Rhythm section consisting of Carl Perkins, Curtis Counce, Lawrence Marable.

Nothing earthshaking but just a great feel (is it possible not to swing with Ray Brown on board). Shelley got some great playing out of tenor players who weren't stars or Coltrane flame-throwers--Kamuca and here Cooper. In the pocket, thinking melodically all the way and always making sense. Hamp gets a bit hung up in his last 2-3 choruses (blues in G), but it's great to see him. I wonder if there's any footage of Carl Perkins (the pianist, not the R&R guy).
