I agree with you, even though she was very good artistically the jumps weren't that great. I definitely believe the judges had already made up their minds that she was going to win from the extremely high marks they gave her. In my opinion it wasn't a gold medal performance but since the rest of the field made mistakes early on, she won.

weren't all doing 7-triple jump programs. Midori, Kristi & Tonya set the technical bar really high, but Kristi combined both artistry & technical prowess in her skating. Unfortunately, Midori was 4th coming into the Long Program and Nancy & Tonya didn't perform their best. Kristi was the reigning World Champion, but she wasn't necessarily favored to win by the judges. That night, she DESERVED and was destined to win Olympic Gold!

I respectfully disagree. I wouldn't call it HUGE mistakes. The 3-Loop was, by skating definition, NOT a fall (a hand-down.) It would have been a bigger mistake if she tried the 3-Sal (the easiest triple, but her nemesis jump) & fall. If Kristi's skate at the 92' Games was like her '92 Nationals & drew a later skating order, she would have gotten the highest score of her amateur career. You have to remember, back in the late 80's & early 90's, Olympic & World top ladies skaters...

I love Kristi but these scores are too high. This is an inferior performance to her Trophee Lalique one and got higher scores then there for both technical and artistic. Also while she did a much harder combination then anything Michelle did in 98, she had 2 huge mistakes while Michelle was flawless, yet their scores were exactly the same skating first, and this was a better field then 98. Not right. It looks like the judges decided she was the one they wanted to win the gold no matter what.

The height? Her jumps really aren't that high. The first Lutz actually might have been called as underrotated in the new system. She was really good, though. LOVE the program.

Yeah Taras' program in 1998 was average/ borderline pitiful-especially artistically. The only thing that stood out-if you want to call it that-was a triple loop/triple loop combination. The rest?... a lot of simple, connecting almost novice level in-between-skating setting up for the next-YOU GUESSED IT: ANOTHER JUMP.Of course,Tara DID skate right after Surya Bonaly. Anyone would look like Agnes DeMille after sitting/ suffering through that.

Check out the height and the speed on the rotation of her jumps. So fast!!!
