minimum of 6 reps max of 12 reps do 3to4 sets

It's almost impossible to just 'tone'. You can target certain muscle fibers with higher reps (usually about 20), but toning is all about bodyfat. If you want to be really toned, you need a certain amount of muscle with a very low bf %. Whats your bodyfat currently? Do you know how to do cardio efficiently? (Might i add that diet is 60% of this).

Ok where did you learn that..?
Ronnie for a start trains on 17 reps. It's best to alternate, i do 4 month switches, low reps with good form, then 8-12 reps, then 20ish reps for the last 4 months. I put on the most mass during the high rep rotation, but i must alternate it so my body doesn't get used to it.
Don't give advise, everybody is different. Maybe that works for you, but have you ever tried it? Ignore what your PE teacher tells you.
