ZR1 vs GTR at the 'Ring - Garage419

Side by side comparison of both the Nissan GTR and the Corvette ZR1 at the Nürburgring (Nordschleife). These two videos were released by GM and Nissan as evidence of lap records, both starting a timer at different points on the track. To compare the laps, Garage419 has used a visual landmark to sync both videos; the pit-exit sign. We invite both drivers of the two cars to come to our garage to discuss their individual laps. - Garage419

Really wins the Vette.

Great video. Both cars are faster on this course than Bugatti's 1000hp Veyron.

For those of you doubting the GT-R's top speed capability in this video (180mph on a 2.5 mile long straight) i've got bad news for you. Motortrend has just taken a stock GT-R up to 192mph (12mph faster than this video) on a 2 mile long straight. Enjoy: watch?v=fO42M44uMls Looks like Nissan is being proven right and the haters have nowhere left to hide.

So it lost on the track, it takes 1st in the ugly contest. I think the Japanese need to stick with making ugly azz fuel economy cars and leave power and speed to Europe and america.

Oh ok, let's just ignore ALL the other laps that the GTR has pounded the 911t at. And the customer-GTR drag strip runs too. Let's just sweep those under the rug.

Sounds good to me. They may or may not be, I don't know. I don't know what to think anymore. Oh, and wasn't the preview drive actually a preproduction car? Back on 12/07 right? Either way Im looking forward to some more information/laptimes, this is good stuff.

Yes, 21 seconds slower, during a PREVIEW DRIVE, not a Supertest lap and also in the WET. Expect HVS to put down a 7:35 - 7:40 during an all out Supertest lap in the dry. I'll speak to you again in early 09 (when the GT-R's Supertest will be run) and we can discuss this issue with Porsche, who claim that the GT-R can only achieve a 7:54. Won't they be a bunch of red-faced MFs?
StrykerV8 (October 1, 2008 at 2:11 am)
Fair enough, 7:50 it is. Hey, thats like 21 seconds slower than Nissans claim, isn't it?

The difference between my post an yours is i stated facts, u rely on opinion. You are not an engineer so your grasp of two numbers hardly constitutes an engineering case of any kind. FACT: Horst von Saurma HAS done a 7:50 in a GT-R wearing factory RE070 rubber, during a PREVIEW DRIVE in the WET. The Supertest is coming next year. FACT: Horst von Saurma could not go faster than 7:54 in a 997 911t wearing Sport Cup R-compounds in the DRY during an all out Supertest lap. Check Sportauto online.

Yeah, Im sure Porsche would make a bold statement like that for no reason, potentially destroying their image if it turns out they are just whining. So... you think its normal for a stock 480hp, 3900lb car to lap the 'ring in 7:29? Be honest now. Don't forget how the GT-R magically kept up with the ZR1 down the straight. Oh right, aerodynamics. Because the Z06 can demolish the GT-R on straights but the ZR1 is actually just a big parachute.
