I don't think the performance was meant as a drum off. these guys all respect each other and they are all great in their own respect. And dissing Steve Gadd is just stupid. Yes, alot of people can play "crazy army" and "50 ways" and others, but Gadd wrote the book man. Thats all I'm sayin. That's like dissing picaso becuase you can trace. Bullshit! Weckl is heads and shoulders above. Gadd lives on reputation and yes he is great, but he can't touch Dave Weckl, not by a stretch and everyone who knows about drumming knows that. Not to diminish Gadd's greatness, but Weckl is just other-worldly.

"Playing well, a lot and fast (I'm not saying this is ALL Weckl and Vinnie are doing) can never be better than playing with THE feeling (I'm saying Gadd is playing with THE feeling)" Yep, It's why no one plays like BB'King. Chops won't buy you personality and Gadd delivers it.

Also, look at the forum/setting they are in at the moment this video was shot. They are soloing which asks them to showcase the BEST of their abilities. Many instruments, not just drums, ask in solos to have CHOPS (speed, dexterity, stamina, etc.). The more chops you have, the better. But, it still asks you to stay within the musical context. Vinnie and Weckel did the best at this: Gadd did not.
