I've welded with stoudy wire, Its a hard surfacing wire after you weld with that it will ping and snap crackle and pop for awhile as it cools kinda weird stuff.
tomandcrazyj (September 22, 2008 at 11:21 pm)
answer to it except it might be hard spots or hot spots...??? What is it???

I was just being a smartass, with the rest of them assholes:) J/k assholes, No but for real yeah 6011 usally needs a wire brush or something to make it look nice, especially if u r welding through millscale and crud. 7018's slag usally pulls up by itself as long as all the elements r right.Thinking about it I do have a question. When running 7018 sometimes theres like a blueish color in some spots, I've been welding for a while now and haven't figured out what causes that and haven't found an ..

No no, Your doing fine, Either you have a nice rod that is NOT 6011 or you are a very good welder. The rod really depends how much slag is put on. When I weld I use a 6011 rod just because that is what is easily available and it takes a bit of grinding to come off. Some rods you can here a ping as the slag detaches and then you can just slide it off.
tomandcrazyj (September 20, 2008 at 2:14 am)
Huh? Usually when ever I stick weld the slag just about comes off it self or just needs a little tap by the end of the rod. I must be doing something wrong?

The weld is nice and it looks fine he just needed to get rid of all the slag...
