I never got to play through all of CC... Stupid faulty disc makes the game stall halfway through. >_> I have played Radical Dreamers a few times and CT more times than I can count. Even though I only played about half of CC I can see it's loaded with cameo's and references from Radical Dreamers and CT.

The stories are tied to one another centrally. However, they are separate enough that you can play CC first without playing CT (as I have) and still understand almost all of the story. The references to CT will be lost on you though. I agree with EvilLuisito, play CC, then CT, then CC again. I have yet to play CT but I definitely plan on it!

You can play Chrono Cross without playing Chrono Trigger first. You'll understand the gist of it but you will not appreciate it as much or be able to get all the subtle references to Chrono Trigger. So once you finish Chrono Cross, please go play CT and then go back for a second playthrough of CC. It will be much more magical this time around :) Yes, the story is that complex. And playing both of the games helps you understand it better.

You will neither fully appreciate nor will you fully understand Chrono Cross's story without having first played Chrono Trigger.
