Economist Bjorn Lomborg: Global warming is not a priority

http://www.ted.com Economist Bjorn Lomborg makes a persuasive case for prioritizing the world's biggest problems, asking "If we had $50 billion to spend over the next four years to do good in the world, where should we spend it?" His recommendations - based on the findings of the 2004 Copenhagen Consensus - controversially place global warming at the bottom of the list (and AIDS prevention at the top). Lomborg was named one of the 100 Most Influential People by Time magazine after the publication of his controversial book, The Skeptical Environmentalist which challenged widely-held beliefs that the environment is getting worse. Now the Danish economist is taking on the world's biggest problems with his Copenhagen Consensus. (Recorded February 2005 in Monterey, CA. Duration: 17:27)

'The Most IMPORTANT Video You'll Ever See (part 1 of 8)' on you tube. BTW there was a report called the Stern review which basically did a cost benefit analysis of tackling global warming and it is WAY more beneficial to tackle the problem than try to cope with the effects of global warming. Though how the hell you cope with hundreds of millions displaced, and killed, mass starvation and the loss of 50% of the earths species I just don't know!

planets from by 2100. Even if by some crazy miracle we could terraform Mars, Venus, Mercury, the Moon and the asteroid belt we still couldn't all live like Europeans let alone Americans. WE HAVE TO GROW UP AND FACE REALITY instead of listening to bonkers out of touch economists! There is a great example of exponential growth here: 'David Suzuki Speaks at the 2006 Green Festival in San Francisco ' on google video (starting at the 30 minute mark. Or go here:

destroying the planet! It seems that economists have a mental defect that will not allow them to confront realities on the limits to growth. At around the 12 minute mark he claims that the poorest people will be as rich as Americans will be in 2100. This is complete nonsense! For everyone to live as Europeans do we would need 3 planet Earths worth of resources to support everyone, if we all lived like Americans we would need more than 5! Where the hell does Lombourg think we will get 4 more

What about stopping people hoarding obscene amounts of wealth and stopping wars. The Iraq war cost $3 trillion alone!. So now Mr Lombourg give it up and go away! I would also like him to say that capitalism has had its day... There are 6.7 billion people on the planet, global GDP is around $65 trillion giving around $10,000 each. At this level of consumption we are taking between 1/3 and 1/4 more than the planet can replace each year. So if you are making more than $7500 a year, you are

I love it, especially the commercial at the end. I think that says all about what that crap is all about.

What do you perceive with ethanol and nuclear? Do you believe these changes will be for the better? How can we stop climate change?
