I disagree with you. There was an additional pressure on El G to win an olympic medal since he was domainanting the 1500m. He won in Athens while staying in the pack and composed himself to beat Lagat. On the ohter hand, I agree with you that El G usually accelerate from 600-300 m to win most of his races.

No, EL G should not be judged on 1 race alone, but rather on his whole career, which was magnificent. Likewise, Coe ran a bad race in Moscow 800m due to nerves the pressure of being expected to win. He didn't and some have never let him forget it. The difference is that Coe still ran the last 200m faster than anyone else, whereas EL G was infront and was passed by Ngeny in the homestraight. I think that athletes should be judged on their best form, and Coe EL G were perhaps the 2 best ever.

yes but we cant judge el g on that from 1 race (the fianl of the olympics he said himselve he was not in his good day he was so scared and nervous) co himself said that el g can do better that what he did in the mile given his 1500 wr time. ngeny helped el g to run faster to take the world record and ngeny was a great athlete as well unfortunately he had an acicdent that kept him away from the athletics otherwise it would have been good rivarly between him and el g
