The Internet did exist, it was just compartmentalized and run (inefficiently) by the Navy. And, oh man, you should have seen the drama on USENET when r.g.v.sony was added to the list. Everybody in r.g.v.sega was apoplectic, to say the least. And about half of r.g.v.nintendo was insisting that cartridges were superior to CD's in every possible way.

Well I'm fine with old people playing games, it's make the gameing industry work and nintendo have really hit the nail on the head, but what I don't like about this is when old people try to talk about it like their pros.

For the old people liking simple games like Wii Sports...
It's just that old people think it's hard to get in to the new technology they weren't used to when they were young, so if they are given simple and easy to follow games to play, they probably really enjoy it and there is nothing bad about that.
It's like giving the controller to a young kid the first time in his/her life, doesn't it feel really fun even if it's really simple and doesn't interest gamers aged over 10 or so?

I was into gaming and I'd be forced to argue that point rather heatedly. Within a year of its release (same time frame on the Wii now) it had enough ports and started new series that it had come fully into its own. Even more impressive considering that it was a brand new game developer, not a established one like Nintendo. Same with the Xbox although it took them a bit longer.
Myst, Suikoden, Ridge Racer, Toshinden, Rayman, Wipeout, Ace Combat, Arc the Lad, Tekken-it goes on within that year.

Now let's take a look back at what you said about the PlayStation. It's possible you weren't there or weren't into gaming back when it came out, but a large amount of its library at least for the first few years was, in all respects, shovelware.
History is just repeating itself, as it always has.

The Wii's third party support is, by and large, worse than how it was before. Before nobody could release games on their consoles. Now they're just letting people release shovelware, taking advantage of those same kids. There's no quality control and that's a huge problem. Potentially decent casual games are drowned out by garbage like Ninjabread Man or Jenga that aren't just casual games, they're horrible games.
But no they dont have to aim at us but even acting like we matter would be nice. |
