CBasie....
I love stride but I guess I favor his later recordings... any recordings Tatum did were IMOP awesome! I have one big problem listening to A Tatum..it's like I listen to other jazz greats and admire there genius but constantly find myself going back to him....He's my drug of choice.

In my opinion, I like his older recordings better where he plays at full stride. What are your opinions?

Gorowitz, yes he does this often and with his awesome improvisational skills he makes it sound easy.

ffurgy...How fortunate you were to have seen probably the greatest jazz pianist of our time! I consider ourselves (those of us with ears..lol) to be just as fortunate to be able to listen to so many of his wonderous recordings. "Eargasims"....

I saw him at the Hollywood Bowl with Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson...just 2 weeks before he died. They jammed until almost 3 am...I had to leave at midnight..normally the Bowl shows ended at 10 PM..I can still remember them all on stage and Armstrong saying.."You cats wanna keep jammin?" and the crowd went crazy...Tatum...would do solos...I wish I had a video for a brain..I've got him on my list with Godowski, Petri, Sauer, Cziffra... |
