Well anyway. What's difficult to know is the force of gravity that keeps us so comfortably seated. People are primarily social animals. Yet the force of gravity stays in check, so the universe hasn't collapsed into a lump. We're limited to the forces that create our reality. Gravity, electromagnetism, and the nuclear forces. So what is time and space? What will happen if more people become familiar with the fundamental forces?

Looking for consciousness is looking for God: by it's very definition, it cannot be 'found' and it cannot be 'understood'. All we can do is speculate, and all debates that occur emerge as a clash of semantics (and in many cases, our ego-driven insistence that what we are saying must be true). I comfortably accept everyone can feel that consciousness is utterly unverifiable by anyone but 'myself'... so Meowbay, disparaging others with opposing positions on this subject seems very childish.

Does Moore's Law conflict with many of the things Kurzweil is projecting? If it does, and if anyone could meantion any credible references that object to Kurzweil's predictions, I'd be very grateful for the info.

AMERICAN FREE PRESS. Two french biochemical students, Laurent Bonomo Gabriel Ferez were murdered by Israeli Mossad British intelligence assassination teams in June. The two researchers discovered that the H-7 flu vaccine which is designed to neutralize and stop the H5N1 avian flu virus, had been spliced using DNA to actually create a vaccine and illness producing virus at the same time. They also dicovered links to U.S, British and Israeli labs associated with Mossad agent Phillip Zackerie.

Well anyway. I'm just making an observation that's there's no bridge between organic and inorganic chemistry. ...Interesting idea I had. I wonder if ants can have personal traits? Otherwise every ant is much the same as another.
Meowbay (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Where do you get this idea that "they only process and store data" and that this would imply "they" cannot make discoveries? First of all, there is no such thing as "computers" anymore, so your "they" is not even clearly defined. There is computational power and there is equipment that makes use of that. Of course you can have computations that include making discoveries. And it goes without saying that learning and self-conscienceness are clearly becoming viable options as well. Are you blind?
TwoBun (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Ahhh...you've stated "Of course they do"...I think they don't make discoveries. They only process and store data. Computers may have a sort of technical soul, but they can't have a "self conscious" mind. They can emulate sensitivity through computation, but not with same result of a complex living social animal. Errr...A social animal is an adaptive creature. I wonder if ants can have personal traits? What do you think, can insects have personal traits?
Meowbay (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Of course they do. Update your info. You have no idea what you're writing about.
TwoBun (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
No. Your remark was "If an artificial intelligence discovers others..." This is not a realistic condition. The predicate "discovers" is assigned to the subject "artificial intelligence". ...Ahhh...No such thing. Computers don't make discoveries.
Meowbay (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Yeah so? Your "No." is only confirming what I wrote.
