Hey Geek...he didnt think it substantive so he didnt think it as plastic? If it had been substantive, it WOULD have been plastic then!?? Of course LA is plastic.
geekxlove81 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
he never thought of it as a substantive city.

What a king, I don't think he's seen a hollywood move in sixty years.

So true! Werner can ramble!
I love the look on Henry's face when Werner says he'd been shot at many times before with much more serious bullets. This is a great interview!

Having watched the interview twice (actually after reading some of the latest comments), I found that the expansion on the substance comment comes before the actual comment.
4'14: Rollins asks Herzog's view on 'the state of Hollywood now'. Herzog's answer leads up to the substance line (5'40), the final statement of his answer. It's the 'rituals, rules, technicalities' and so on that fascinate him and how Hollywood is able to organise and manufacture 'the [collective] dreams of the world'.

I think he didn't because that would have been a long answer. But Henry was interested in that comment.

I agree -- Rollins should have let Herzog talk more about LA being a city of substance. Because, living in downtown Hollywood, I'm trying very hard to wrap my feeble mind around this one. (Mayve that's why Herzog's Herzog and I'm just a no-name wannabe!) |
