I don't buy your argument especially considering that females either fend for themselves or do all the hunting in nearly every species. It's a myth that the opposite is the norm.
I think it is because men are of incredible low reproductive value. Where as women can only reproduce once every 9 months which makes them of high value. Rites to passages are just a way to limit competition of the opposite sex.

It's because women are more suited to the role of child bearing and caretaking while men are usually the hunters a more dangerous job and unlike you they don't live in modern society so they do what evolution has influenced them to do.
