Women In The Church: The Contradiction

Welcome to Toc Toc's 2-week web event, "House Of God". "House of God" is an in-depth, online seminar, that will focus on tough questions concerning the roles of women in the church, as well as God's authority structure for the entire Body of Christ. In this first episode, we will examine two sets of scripture. One set says that women must not teach, speak, or have authority over men. The other set of scriptures show examples of God appointing women as prophetesses, teachers, ministers/pastors, and preachers, including positions in which they had authority over men. Join me as we go straight to the Bible for the Lord's command concerning this apparent "contradiction" in God's Word. _______________________ _______________ Comments written too early, or left in haste, may require future repentance. Be advised to proceed with wisdom and to respect others. Speak scripture, not opinions. Truth does exist. Be humble and submit to each other in love. ________________________ _____________ Comment Conduct: Galatians 5:13. Love each other. Comments that are off topic, disrespectful, or disruptive (intentional or not) may not be approved. Comment moderation is also to maintain orderly discussion, so do not be offended if your comment does not appear. For most, this will not be an issue.

Exodus 15:20, which just read, said that the WOMEN followed her. There's nothing to ponder here. The King didn't "submit" to anyone. That's a strange word to use.

I would like to see these explained: 1Ti 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach; Tit 1:6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

The chapter prior to the one your referring to has Paul given recommendations for women who prophesy (re: church wear). Is Paul contradicting himself? No. Because only in the English KJV do we read Paul saying "Women keep silent". In the actual Greek and the way every other language translate the Scripture Paul is saying, "You say, women keep silent...but who has called you?" Check it out for yourself.

I think these scriptures will shed some light on your study. Romans8:3-5; Romans8:9; Galatians 5:16; 1 corinthians 3:16; Galatians 3:27-29. I like your response to when your faced with a contradiction.

I am sure you did not mean it as such, but you made it sound like a man can say anything, but a woman has to be submissive. I would like to point out that ANYONE who speaks from or teaches from the Bible should first and foremost be submitted to Christ.

Women are simply not meant to rule over men, at least according to the Bible. Yes, women can speak in the church; however, always in a submissive manner. If you don't have a husband and you're desperate to ask questions, go to an Elder- thats what they are there for.

Those scriptures say let the 'woman/women' keep silent not the 'wife/wives'. Can a woman witness to male/female about the gospel? yes. Can a woman hold the office of prophetess? yes. Can a woman hold the office of authority over man when it comes to teaching, pastoring or apostleship? no. No woman in scripture has authority over man. Deborah may have judged over Israel but it was God's word that was sought not her authority.

romancatholicdefense: Not everyone has a husband to ask. (Keep up the good work Monica).
