Isn't it awkward to see 2 Countries from the U.K singing their Separate Anthems? It seems like they are both trying to prove that they want to be a Separate nation,and not apart of the U.K,No Offense to England or any country from there.....

Interesting concept - no Welsh woman should be permitted to sing the national anthem of "her country." Fascinating! I'm a male and I detect ignorance and intolerance against females with that stupid attitude. The anthem of any democratic country, province or community is MEANT to be sung by the entire population - men, women children.

max Iagreewith you due to the string natinal pride of all the nations in the uk they shouldr emain separate for all sporting events, this being a welsh born raised in scotland lad here btw. You will actuly find that england dont have an official anthem they just use the brittish one. not that I agree that god save the queen should represent us all, hell one ofthe less sung verses is anti scottish. just theway it is.

But... then - why isn't there a different anthem for Great Britain? I understand why 300 years ago the english anthem automatically became the 'british' one... but times have changed! Personally, I'd rather be singing Land of my fathers - Wales is a independant nation in all other sports... why do we all have to compete in the olympics as the 'union'?

imagine 20 bryn terfels singing it...=) i'm welsh too, born in neath, dad's welsh and my mum's from scotland. i was there when we beat the french. that was the best 'weekend' of my life! i was jut meant to be down for the weekend and ended up staying in cardiff for a week lol

because in the olymipcs we all compete as britain and god savethe queen is the brittish nantinal anthem. personaly i would prefer Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau or flower of scotland be played but thats the reason right there.

it's because Welsh male voices have a special proud feel! I'm a half Welsh and a (female) singer, but I agree here!
