God Bless our Military and our Grand Country. I agree with StormOBX. Although, I went through similar experiences myself as Chely did. So I do believe what she says is true. Like her I have had family Serve and have friends that now serve in the Iraq and Afghanistan war. We must respect our Country and most of all our Military men and women or we could not write these comments today if not for them.

This isn't a lousy song, it's wonderful. Even if it wasn't a true story, I've seen people disrespect our troops, it's everywhere. This states it simple, we're free because of our troops. We have the easy life and we are all lucky, so we need to stop taking it for granted. It doesn't matter what your political belief is, support our troops, first and foremost.

As a Vietnam Veteran draftee who was spat on, sworn at, called a "baby killer" and worse, in the USA and thanked by hopeful Vietnamese that I was in contact with while "in country", I can relate to this song and sentiment. My car bumper has (+ will always have) a Vietnam Vet sticker and I still get gestures from ignoramuses + idiots (+ I'm not even cutting people off). FREEDOM isn't free - it must be continually fought for. Since "you can't fix stupid", there will always be these people around.

You have to know the rest of the story. After she parked the woman got out of her car to tell her "your war is wrong."

No, according to Chely the woman told her it was the sticker. After she parked the woman had followed her to tell her "your war is wrong."

i witnessed this incident. the lady in the minivan had an "army of one" bumper sticker.
deliciousmorton (July 11, 2008 at 4:58 am)
why is she assuming that the sticker is the reasoning for the lady to make the gesture? perhaps the lady was just the type of person to give a stranger the finger. maybe that was the only finger she had on that particular hand. the singer could have been driving too slow. so many reasons. we'll never know if the only communication was a one gesture.

she came to afghanistan and sang this for us. It was so wonderful. She put so much emotion into this song and she got all choked up while on stage. I got a picture of us together.

ikjl :"Maybe she cut the lady off...? "
She said that the lady pointed to the sticker and then gave her the finger. |
