That is because this song was originally not hers. This song originated from the band Ednaswap, who wrote it. The frontwoman Anne Preven was the original singer. They were on contract with East West/Elektra Records. Afterward this song wound up with BMG and Natalie sang it. Ednaswap disbanded after five years.

Rusty Anderson (now lead guitarist for Paul McCartney) was invited by songwriters Scott Cutler and (original singer of "Torn) frontwoman Anne Preven to join a new band (Ednaswap) along with Paul Bushnel and Carla Azar. The band inked a deal on East West/Elektra Records. The band released four major label records and penned the worldwide number 1 hit song "Torn," later performed by Natalie Imbruglia. After extensive touring and recording for five years (1993-1998) Ednaswap broke up.

oh the 90s I remember like if it was yesterday I dont know how much they used to play his song on the radio!,I remember driving in the car turning on the radio and this song was like on every channel it was insane haha 3 wonderful song and beautiful voice. natalie is extremely beautiful even with short hair,I looove her with short hair she can totally pull it off look sexy.I wish she would have her hair like this again!!

This song played at the end of an episode of Cold Case.. and I had the lyrics stuck in my head like I knew I heard some years back. lol She's pretty hot. I was wondering why I haven't heard anything from her so I checked her out on Wiki. None of her other songs could ever reach the success of this one. Must've been some wild inspiration behind this one.
