tradition mostly now. In the 60s and 70s, the only affordable powerful engine you could buy was a V8. 10 and 12 cylinders were only for the serious money, way out of reach for your average Joe's. Also only until recently have V6s been putting down decent power. They were not ideal for a true muscle car when they were first conceived.

v8s have always been used in muscle cars...chargers, mustangs, camaros and so on....v10s and 12s are more for exotic cars...v8s offer up more torque and they cost less to make so thats why they been in muscle cars
propmeistaape (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
why is v8 considered muscle when 10s and 12 cylinders are bigger? and the v6 isnt that much smaller no? some one tell me plz

Man, that's not what muscle cars are about. It's not all about speed, it's about big torque, American Muscle. Harkening back to a time with big cars and even bigger engines. It's not about euro style handling and running the 24 hrs of Le Mans, it's a totally different genre, man. |
