Yes, he seemed miffed that Sham had the temerity to take the lead from him around a turn, which was always his particular forte. After that he seemed resolved to break Sham once and for all.

As much as I love Dr.Fager(in my opinion the greatest miler in history),he would have had no chance going against Sec at this distance, maybe at a 1 1/4 miles, but not at a 1 1/2 miles! When he got to a 1 1/4,that big heart just kept pumping vast amounts of oxygen rich blood to this freight train. Nothing anyone could have done about it,just an amazing racehorse.

When Sham pulls ahead by half a length, from Secretariat's reaction, it looks as if Secretariat says, "Oh, really, is THAT what you think? Ok, then, how do you like this?" And Sham is a lightning bolt race horse which is what makes this SO AMAZING in a mile 1/2 race!!!

When asked, Big Red stated he would, most definitely, not raise taxes during a recession. Further greatness from the Great One!!!

Unbelievable! Two records in sports that will never be broken. Cy Youngs 511 wins, and Secretariats' time at the Belmont.

I was still in HS, then, had just started walking hots getting a leg up on the occasional horse coming off a lay-up. Everyone from the shed was there that day to watch the Belmont. It was amazing! I don't thnk any of us knew we were watching history being made. Then again, maybe we did...
