the sound is definitely dylan-ish, but as for his songwriting being the closest thing we have to dylan today..... conor oberst? still amazing. recently saw them in concert with conor, actually. and they were a real treat.

I agree, I think he's the closest thing we have to a new Bob Dylan.For me his songwriting is on par as an early Dylan. The albums you really need to show this are their now unobtainable first two albums, Through these reins and gone and a solo effort from Ian called Iantown, both fucking brilliant with early versions of this song and others.
