. lol, anyway whats really going on here is two phenomenal players being honest, i love both of them. Wayne deservers the mention here because he blew everyone away. Now had Scott soloed after Wayne i would of feared for him as he approached the stand though i know he would also turn it around and i would be hitchin a ride within a few bars. Great video here and thanks to the rhythm section, they were on it and very much an important element to this gem of a performance.

yeah i hear you! i kinda feared for W as he approached the mic but wow he tore it up in a masterful way. I checked this video out to listen to scott as im checking out a lot of his playing which is truly superb swinging jazz. I naturally fit into the traditional mainstream way of playing and want to cultivate that, but then you hear Shorter and start questioning.

Hah how. That stuff Scott Hamilton is playing is piss easy compare to the harmonic interpretations of wayne shorter

Hey panurge, learn how to read. I didn't say he sounded like a blow up doll, I said he was playing well. I expressed my opinion that the electric bass was not the right axe for this style. You keyboard tough guys who look for an excuse to offer threats of physical violence over the internet invariably impress people as being pathetic little jerks who get shit on by everyone.

You go and try and tell gary willis he sounds like a blowup doll. He'll punch you in the throat. I would. His playing is brilliant. And these guys CHOSE to play with him. Could have picked anyone.
Scott Hamilton is still around and kicking, saw him in Paris last month.
Peace.

"rhythm section sounds sad"
I don't really agree, although it's easy to speculate that Elvin Jones would have been the ideal drummer behind Wayne. My main problem was the bass. The guy's playing well, but this seems to come from a time when the electric bass was considered an appropriate substitute for acoustic in this musical context. The best analogy I can think of would involve a blow up doll and Angelina Jolie.

I absolutely agree: Stan Getz is my musical hero. I have a collection of 270+ CDs and some more LPs. Just fantastic. I wish I xould have seen and heard him live.
Greetings from Switzerland.

What is the piano player doing from :46 to 1:02 or so. After hearing Scott play with Dave McKenna, there is not comparison as an accompanist. |
