.When the new Camaro with the 302 cid motor went into limited production, it was given the RPO (Regular Package Option) code of Z-28. When no one could come up with a name for the car, it was decided to simply call it the Z-28, -and history was made.

This video was filmed in Iceland ;) But here u go How the Z28 got it's Name:In 1967 Chevrolet wanted to race the Camaro in the SCCA's Trans-Am Series but they needed an engine that met the Trans-Am Series displacement limit of 305 cubic inches. Instead of using the 283, they created a new engine by using the 327 block mated with a 283 crank which gave them a 4 x 3 bore and stroke. That put displacement at 302.4 cid which was just under the SCCA's 305 cid limit

Somebody once told me that the Z28 name came from 28th street here in Grand Rapids, due to the presence of a large Chevy dealership here (Berger Chevrolet). Know if this is true, or was someone just BS-ing me?
