What is the difference between Maya and 3D max?

I'd say it's just a matter of taste. For me I find modeling a lot faster in Maya compared to 3ds max. But on the other hand, I find texturing easier in 3dsmax.
In the same way I find Zbrush to be a more adequate program for details. It's a matter of taste - they can both do the same thing. Cheers!

i'd have to say im more of a max fan, the interface is easier to learn and you can still get very professional results (look at WoW).

3D Studio Max is a much more complete app. straight out of the box in terms of modelling and 'beginner' level character animation. Mayas modelling tools are far less intuitive and it has no native character animation system (Full Body IK is unusable).
