While Cadillac is a name that's synonymous with quality, luxury and award-winning customer service for most people, many people do not know the history of the Cadillac name. Interestingly, the name "Cadillac" came from the name of the founder of Detroit, Michigan, who was a French explorer in the 18th century. The first Cadillac was totally complete in 1902 but was not seen by the curious eyes of the public until the following year. Of course, the public was excited about the vehicle, and more than two thousand units were ordered that very day. From that day on, the Cadillac was known as a beautiful, stylish, reliable, and luxurious vehicle. From the very beginning the Cadillac has been synonymous with those that want the finer things in life - and Cadillacs are fine automobiles.

Cadillac is not only known because they produce beautiful, reliable cars and trucks, but also because they haven’t been afraid to leap ahead in the past and be the first to do things. One of the first things that Cadillac did that no one else had done in a mass produced car is power a vehicle with a V8 engine. Cadillac was the first car manufacturer to put some real power behind the wheel of its vehicle, and it did so in 1915 to the excitement of car lovers worldwide. The Cadillac was also the first car to have an electric start engine instead of having to be cranked, as earlier cars had been. This of course was a huge piece of history, as it changed the way we all use and view vehicles.

From post war times until the present day, the Cadillac has enjoyed being known as a vehicle that provides consumers with luxury and quality. Not only do Cadillac vehicles look good, they also provide passengers with a great ride, the driver with easy handling, and styling that is unique to Cadillac, though there are those that try to duplicate and imitate.

Of course, history wouldn’t be history without mentioning the low points for Cadillac. Cadillac had always known who its target consumer was, but in the 1980s they tried to go for entry level buyers by producing more compact vehicles, such as the Cimarron. This of course, did not go over well, because it did not fit with what people expected of Cadillac and the younger audience that they were targeting knew that they could buy other compact cars that suited their needs for less than they could buy a Cadillac. Unfortunately, the Cimarron was never really given much of a chance before consumers responded negatively and Cadillac moved on.

The Cadillac of today is much different in appearance from that first Cadillac seen in 1903, but still it has the same luxury, quality, comfort, and reliability in common. Cadillac appeals to many people today with its beautiful cars, as well as its luxury sport utility vehicles such as the Escalade. Current Cadillac vehicles sport razor-sharp lines, stacked headlights, sharp looking grilles and a standard 100,000 mile warranty. As they have in the past, Cadillac is meeting the needs of all of the consumers that are looking for luxury, comfort, quality, reliability, and even power. This has been a trend with Cadillac from the very beginning and will likely continue well into the future.

96 DeVille front brakes
I am really glad to find this place. Newbie here. I have a 96 DeVille. I'm trying to change the front brakes and rotors. Let me say, I'm not a mechanic but I've been able to do disk brakes on my Chevys and a Jeep. I've found some good posts here that were helpful but I've run into a snag. I've gotten the caliper pins backed out but I can't get the caliper to swing up or come off. The rotor tries to come with it. Is this the piston holding it on there and do I need to bleed the brakes to release it or is there something that I'm missing? Or do I just need to pry it. So far, I've just used my hands, I didn't want to cause possible damage in case I'm missing a step.
DTS replacement reportedly due 12-2010
Here is an article about the "replacement," or next generation, for the DTS model due 12-2011: http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/02/report-cadillac-dts-to-be-replaced-by-xts-which-will-be-built/ If this article is accurate, there likely will be preview information coming out soon! I hope Cadillac doesn't abandon the DTS' loyal customer base--and makes the styling outstanding!
91 Seville (Looking to purchase)
Hey! There is this little white seville with moon roof sitting in a parking lot in front of a friends apartment building that is for sale. I thought it was an interesting looking little car, so I decided to leave a note on the window to see if the owner wanted to sell. A few weeks later, he calls and says he just wants to get rid of it. Says it is a 91 and it runs great except it needs new struts on the front, and the starter solenoid may be going out. He didn't give me a price, just said to make an offer. He said he thinks it has 120k on it, and his dad was the first or second owner, and it has pretty much sat in Idaho, and over in ND etc. He kept mentioning how he just wants it gone. I thought that I could get a good deal out of this, but then we were taking out the trash and I decided to look at it, and saw that the drivers side door plunger button cap thingys were missing, the drivers seat looked OK, but the passengers seat was torn up, and the arm rest on the console was torn up (the padding removed, and the black plastic exposed). Wasn't sure about the back seats, as there are tires on them. The doors were unlocked, so we were peeking around. The buttons on the seats are missing, and it looks like a kid had it for the last year or so. The outside looks really great, the interior is just what worries me. If it moves forward and back, I am going to offer him 250 dollars for it to see what he says. I am supposed to look at it on Saturday with a friend of mine that is a mechanic at the local Cadillac dealer. Do you think I am offering too low of an offer for the car, or what do you think it'd be worth? I didn't smell any mildew or anything so the seal on the moonroof must be OK. Let me know what you guys think, or if you know of where I can find a Seville in this body that won't break the bank.
GEN light 1973 Coupe DeVille
Hey Everyone! I have what I hope is a quick question. The other day the GEN light came on in my 1973 Coupe DeVille. Thinking it was the alternator (it was original) I replaced it with a reman from NAPA. The car fires up fine, but the GEN light is still on. SO... with the car running, I disconnected the negitve terminal on the battery to check and see if the alternator will run the car. It did. I know the voltage regulator is built into the alternator so now I'm lost.... and about to start drinking.. :alchi: Any ideas?!?! I hate to bring it into a repair shop for something stupid. Thanks everyone!
Changed Cabin Air Filter
Question for those who have changed their cabin filter from one mechanically challenged: I just replaced mine today. Used the *Fram Fresh Breeze *filter. First I had to find my small socket set to remove the 3 'screws' on the leaf screen. I was surprised when I discovered the screen is attached to a weatherstrip seal. Now Im getting nervous. Got to make sure I dont screw this up and not reinstall the seal properly. But that wasnt difficult. Removed filter cover using the tabs on either side. Of course you cant see them but the cover comes off easily. Then I just had to pop out old filter. No wrestling with this one. It came right out. I put the new Fram filter in with *AIR FLOW arrow pointing towards firewall*. I assume thats air flow direction - into the air compartment in the car. The GM original filter had no such indicator. When I placed the new filter in the compartment it was seated behind two tabs at the bottom but here's where the question is - there are 2 tabs at the top of the compartment. It seemed logical that the filter would fit under these tabs to keep it snug in place but that didnt work - filter cannot fit under these tabs. I didnt notice if the original filter was under them but given the old filter came right out/up, I dont think it did either. Is this what you determined? *The filter rests against the top tabs *and does *NOT* fit under them? There's alot of space between filter and firewall compartment. I am again guessing that when you turn on A/C, the compartment door opens to form a seal with the filter and prevent outside air penetrating into car w/o coming through filter. Am I correct in these assumptions? I cant wait to do air filter.
How do I put music on the harddrive
We purchased our CTS-V a month ago and I would like to download music to the hard drive. Can someone tell me how to copy music from iTunes (have an iPhone) to the cars hard drive? I have a memory stick, but I'm not sure how to copy the music. Do I copy the entire library, export files, copy individual files? I'm lost, please help. :band:
12v Power supply under dash pad?
Installing a Parrot Blue tooth. Requires a switched 12v connection. Where can I find one? I have the dash pad off if something is under there. If the only place is the fuse box, then which fuse and how do I connect there?
Dyno Results
I am going to try to be as civil as possible because I am really pissed off right now. The dyno is 20/20rwhp on the low side so you can add that to what you see. Low numbers were done with the 2.55 pulley tune: Image: http://i43.tinypic.com/103bhxk.jpg I wish you could see the air fuel ratio but it was beyond lean. Afterward we reviewed the 2.55 tune to stock and saw very little difference with no added fuel for the increased boost. Granted mistakes happen but they told me it was not a pulley tune. Next run was after we fixed the tune. As you can see the car runs great up until 5000-5500 where we started getting detonation so he shutdown. So I got around 520hp/tq at the 5000-5500rpm mark before he let off. The guys helping me with the car used to work for a well known r&d shop so they put in a call to a friend where he said point blank the car does not provide enough fuel and a fuel booster pump is required. This was not some chump they spoke too either it is their head engineer saying this. I am holding off disclosing any names. I do not recall that information being conveyed to us and that is what I am most angry about. Who has the correct information that is what I would friggin like to know? I want to say thanks to Pat at Quality Motorsports because he burned a lot of his day helping me with this. His brand new stock V did 450rwhp on a very hot day.
Rooftop Carrier
Folks, I would like your 2 cents. I'm looking for a roof top carrier as we are going away for 5 days, funny enough the 15 year old and 19 year old want to come with us and we are taking the SRX to the cottage/camp. Our SRX does not have the 3rd row, but the back is reserved for the Golden retriever. So we've been looking at Yakima skybox http://www.yakima.com/racks/cargo/boxes/product/8007181/skybox-18.aspx with the Yakima crossrails and rail grabs. this set up lists around $1050.00 + tax so about $1200. I like the titanium but the carrier it's self is $1140.00 tax in. We will mostly have our luggage up there so I want it water tight. I'd rather take the truck but that's not happening:tisk::tisk:...So please let me know your thoughts, experiences even on the cheaper versions available. Thanks again.:D:D
